Never once heard a reason why this is a really bad thing, btw. It MIGHT be, I don't know. I've just never heard why.

See that's it confirmed that the NHS will be getting lengthed by old Boris. Enjoy your £10k broken legs, folks.

Reading a book just now by Clare North (the hardest work of all of the errr....just 3....books of hers I've read but, shrug, never mind that eh?) which has the background of a dystopian UK. It's not far at all removed from ours except for eg the cost if you're ill and not valuable enough to be worth mending.  And other incidental things which are so close to where we are but just a wee bit different.  Like about 4-5 years of exactly this current smug self-satisfied kind of right-wing "we'll look after the right kind of people" Tories.

Re: Politics thread

Hope everyone has been out voting. (Unless you voted Tory, in which case you're dead to me)

Love an election night. Got the beer chilling and the snacks ready to go. Huge bonus that I'm 5 hours behind you lads too, so I'll get Edinburgh's results about midnight. I'll leave the final word on this post to a hero of mine, and hopefully yours too:

Re: Politics thread

Good result for Brexit, poor result for politics. SNP made gains so hopefully get an Indy vote soon and we can then have a " proper "referendum on Europe that will be Scots deciding for Scots.
For too long the difference is size has held Scotland back. Whoever England voted for was the government Scotland had to suffer. Indy will mean we get a better deal for Scotland with a fairer representation. Who knows we may even get a Tory ( Yuck ) party running Scotland. The good news is it will be an end to the branch offices and they will need to become " Proper " Scottish parties working for what is best for Scotland.

Re: Politics thread

Agree with you Jim - there's definitely a place for a conservative party in a mature democracy in an independent Scotland.

Re: Politics thread

It was noticeable last time how many people just didn't understand what independence would mean, saying e.g. they "were voting No cos they didn't like that Alex Salmond", not grasping that in an independent Scotland they could have a Labour or Conservative or Green, Communist, Liberal or SNP government - whatever they wanted, and in fact have probably more chance of their own preferred party getting into power since others who wanted independence but not necessarily the SNP could then go back to voting for other policies than the independence one.

Re: Politics thread

Said for several years that the best way to get rid of the SNP is to vote for independence. I wouldn't touch them with a shitty stick if I moved back after indy, but made sure my postal vote was in for them this election lickety split.
