So as a couple of you will know, a few days after I posted this thread my auld faither decided to tap out from the whacky world of life. So whilst I got to see just about every friend and member of family whilst I was across, it was far from the way I'd have liked it!
Observations of Edinburgh after 5 years away:
Not actually that much has changed. Mostly the same shops, same boozers, same halfwits in the boozers 
Roads are a fucking SHAMBLES. The fuck is up with the wee bollards everywhere? And has a single pothole been fixed this decade?
King Rib suppers are still incredible

Well, here's a confession - I've never had a king rib supper! 
I've had to go back down the road several times since Nov, and every time I go down, the more I feel really sad about certain things, which I think, makes me feel disconnected to the area I grew up in.
The roads are a downright mess! Potholes are everywhere! In some parts, it's downright dangerous because folk are trying to swerve to avoid them and encroaching on other lanes!
And don't get me started on folks' driving!
Litter seems to be everywhere too, and some of the towns I was in are just looking really run-down.

With the potholes I wonder if it's a deliberate step to help discourage people from driving into the city.
