Dunblane

26 years ago today, a madman walked into the Dunblane primary school and opened fire on a primary one class. In just a couple of minutes, he killed sixteen children and their amazing teacher, who gave her life in a vain attempt to protect some of her pupils. The coward then turned the gun on himself.

RIP Gwen Mayor and sleep tight little ones 😞

Re: Dunblane

I worked in Fife at the time.  It was my first year teaching and it really brought it home to me that it could have been any one of us or our family involved.

An utter tragedy that will always be in our memory.

Re: Dunblane

I think this was my first "you know where you were" incident (there's probably a better word than that, so I apologise).

Deacon Brodies with my lifelong mate who'd come back up from Southampton uni for the Easter holidays. I mind it feeling absolutely surreal and no really wanting to be anywhere when I heard. Not really any easier to process now.

Of course I then moved to a country where it happens every single fucking day.

Re: Dunblane

I was in the school library when I found out.  Bad moment for the Scouts when it transpired that he'd been a leader, though he'd been chucked out several years beforehand.  So sad, and as you say IJ, I'm glad it is such a rarity here.
