That's the only cup we will win this season.

First game back? Do you forget how to do your job after a holiday? These guys are meant to be athletes and shouldn't need anything more than a couple of pre season games to get back up to speed. If you are saying this " trophy " doesn't count, then fine lets not bother entering. However if you want silverware, they should be hammering any team other than a Premiership side. Sure they showed some nice touches, but it's the final third where they failed miserably and that is not acceptable from players earning what we pay.
The group stages of the league cup have effectively replaced pre-season friendlies across the board. The SPFL knows this, which is why eg games go straight to penalties rather than playing extra time, and why groups are seeded to try and ensure that most top tier teams get through to the last 16.
Do you think that being off the pace is something unique to Hearts?

I see St Johnstone got pumped off Montrose.

Celtic are at the same stage of the season and played last night. A polished performance with goals scored against much better opposition than Cowdenbeath ( no offence ). Are they claiming it's a pre season game? Seriously Forrest if you are happy with the performance against Cowden then you must be on stronger meds than me.
Before you say it I know Celtic have better players but the comparison is the same.

He's not leaving, Jim. If we only beat East Fife 2 nil, he's not leaving. If we only beat whatever other dingle mob is in our group 2 nil, he's not leaving. When we win the group, he's not leaving. If we win/lose or have every single player drop a toley on the 18 yard line in the next round, he's not leaving.
You're going to have to make peace with that soon, and move on!

And there's Killie pumped out of Europe by a bunch of part time farmers. 😋

Stenhousemuir the next lambs to the slaughter in just a few hours, and following United's absolute capitulation last night (despite Lawrence Lewanshankski's mere presence), our inevitable 9 nil victory will see us hose the group with absolute ease. Looking forward to it.

Well, eh, that was absoute shite for the first 80 minutes.
Another 3 points though.

FFS a struggle to beat Stenhousemuir, reports stating we are shite and no progress from the last two seasons. Levein surely has to go before we end up bottom six.
Compare this game to Celtic's, Both teams are at the same stage of the season yet they put 5 past a team 20 games into their season and sitting third in their league, while we struggle to get past two second div teams in a diddy cup. How anyone can defend this charlatan is beyond me.

Motherwell away in the next round. Ah well, we had a good run.
