If you have a spare six hours, this is a must.
I was absolutely mesmerised by Alex Salmond's evidence.
I'm not exaggerating when I say I have never seen a politician argue his case in such an intelligent and articulate fashion.
Absolute brilliance from beginning to end.

He's long been pretty outstanding at this kind of thing. I thought it a shame when he resigned as leader cos of the entertainment of seeing him in debate with other politicians, and wasn't as impressed with NS at that point. But since then I've developed (or should I say that to me she's earned) great respect for her own qualities. Very different from his but not less I think.

Watched Sturgeon yesterday in a marathon 8 hour session. Just as well I'm on flexi.
Her performance was nowhere near as good as Salmond's.

Was that because in this hers was a defensive role whereas his was an offensive (in a non-pejorative sense) one?

No, I don't think so.
I found Salmond to be more articulate and statesman like. He came across as someone who wanted to recount facts, whereas Sturgeon was much more emotional in her evidence and seemed to be unable to separate the people and the accounts.
Sturgeon also failed to answer several questions put to her. And while I understand that it may not be possible to recall all of the facts, many of the questions she failed to answer are fundamental to the case.
She also repeated herself with a lot of her answers, to me a tact not necessary if you are confident of your replies and their veracity.
I also felt that she was inappropriately jocular at points.
