Scotland v Russia/Belgium

We all know we're getting a couple of shaftings, we all know we'll be watching.

All defeatist patter and gallows humour goes in this thread.

Re: Scotland v Russia/Belgium

Glorious failure in both games and our fans and media will be delighted with our ballsy performances.

Then we’ll wonder why we never qualify.

saw 20 mins of the game v the Russians.  Thought as I did in the WCup that Russia aren't anything impressive. they're just big, organised and pretty capable at their allotted roles of being....well....big, organised and pretty capable.  Any decent side should be getting in about them and playing through them by using superior talent.  Unfortunately we didn't show if we had the latter cos we weren't good enough to make a start at the former.  Ah well, just Belgian to come next.

Re: Scotland v Russia/Belgium

First 20 of the Russia game we played fairly well ( and scored ) however we then sat in too deep with no out ball.

Cheers Jim, that's reminded me of a new thread I need to start.

Re: Scotland v Russia/Belgium

The simple answer is dump all the old has been's and start again with the kids. It may take a couple of years but it will pay dividends in the end. I would also make it compulsory for any player WANTING to play for the national team be released to train with the full squad one or two days a month. Turning up for games with very little time getting to know how your team mates will react to certain plays means no one knows who will be making a run and who will sit back. Passing practice is also a must. Have someone with a hoola hoop running up the wing with players practicing getting the ball through the hoop. Teach them the basic principals of passing in front, so the player can run onto the ball and not check back to get it.
